With the calendar flipping to May, the Stanley Cup Playoffs pool is getting smaller and the NHL Mock Draft community is getting larger.

Two of the three local teams, the Islanders and Devils, have officially entered their offseason — the Islanders’ 2023-24 campaign coming to an end on Tuesday night with a 6-3, Game 5 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. They own the No. 18 pick in the first round of June’s draft.

The Devils, who missed the playoffs, are hoping for some Draft Lottery magic on May 7 where they have a 3.5% chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick. They are most likely tethered to the No. 10 spot, however, as they have a 73.3% chance of settling there.

While we wait for the ping-pong balls to fall, our first 2024 NHL Mock Draft will decipher the order of the first round simply based on regular-season standings. That means the Rangers, who won the Presidents’ Trophy this year as the league’s top regular-season team, own the No. 32 pick as they prepare for a second-round matchup with the Hurricanes.
