A heat advisory remained in effect in New York City Thursday, and there is a chance for more thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.
The temperature was expected to reach 86 degrees with a heat index of about 95 degrees, the weather agency said. There’s a 20% chance of showers and storms after about 2 p.m., and a 50% chance overnight.
The heat advisory will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Cooling centers will be open in all five boroughs. To find a center, call 311 or visit nyc.gov/beattheheat.
A little relief is not far away — Friday’s high is predicted at about 76 degrees with a slight chance of more showers in the morning.
Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be mostly sunny with high temperatures of 79 degrees and 76 degrees, respectively.
