Last Wednesday night, the day after the tally of U.S. soldiers who have died in the ongoing Iraq War reached 2,000, antiwar protesters gathered for candlelight vigils in parks all over Downtown, including Washington Square, Union Square, Tompkins Square and even small Abingdon Square, as well as in Chelsea. Above, New York University students Alex Mihalich, left, and Michele Hemes stood in protest under the Washington Square Arch. Below, Chelsea residents Binnie Ravitch, right, and Jake Leventhal, age 6, who both said this was not their first protest against the war, expressed their opposition to our country’s military presence in Iraq.
