iPhone attack
A Downtown resident was talking on her iPhone with a headset in front of 110 William St. around 8 p.m. Sun., Oct. 25 when a stranger passed by, grabbed her by the shoulders and said something she couldn’t hear, police said. He grabbed the phone and punched the victim but she held on until the attacker fled. Two witnesses who saw him run off gave chase and caught him but he convinced them he did nothing wrong, police said. The attacker was described as a 20-year-old black man about 6’ and 180 pounds and wearing a brown baseball cap and a gray hooded jacket.
Stuyvesant High incident
Police arrested Mark Goryachkovskiy, 18, in front of Stuyvesant High School at 4:47 p.m. Fri., Oct. 23 and charged him with stealing a cell phone from a 17-year-old female student from Queens. An 18-year-old male witness saw the suspect take the phone from the victim’s backpack and demanded he return it, police said. The suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and said, “Do you want to do something.” He then put the gun back in his waistband, punched the witness and fled. Police who made the arrest recovered the cell phone and the weapon, which turned out to be a pellet gun. Goryachkovskiy pleaded not guilty and was freed on bail pending a Jan. 27 court appearance.
Celebrity robbed
The actress, Amanda Peet, confronted a burglar shortly before noon on Tues., Oct. 27 in her sixth floor apartment near Duane and Hudson Sts., police said. She left home at 11 a.m. and returned 40 minutes later to face a stranger inside holding her jewel-studded jewelry box. The stranger fled down the stairs with the box valued at $900, police said.
Henry Santos, 26, of 243 Henry St., who was arrested Thurs.; Oct. 29 for an Aug. 31 burglary of a fifth floor apartment in the East Village, is a person of interest in the burglary of Peet’s residence, police said.
Canal St. fracas
A police officer enforcing peddler violations on the southwest corner of Broadway and Canal St. at 1 p.m. Sat., Oct. 10 was making an arrest when a suspect punched and knocked him to the sidewalk, police said. Samba Ndiaye, 22, was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.
Subway robbery
A Village resident who works on Spring St. was held at what appeared to be gunpoint in the C, E station on Spring St. and Sixth Ave. at noon on Sat., Oct. 24, police said. The thief approached the victim at the end of the platform, indicated he had a gun, took the $15, which the victim handed over, and fled.
Garbage tools stolen
A Department of Sanitation employee parked a D.S.N.Y. tow truck opposite 7 State St. across from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal at 5:30 p.m. Fri., Oct. 23 and returned a half hour later to find that a tool box attached to the side of the vehicle was broken open and tools valued at $6,400 were gone, police said.
Car thefts
A Queens resident parked his 2009 Audi in front of 70 Battery Pl. at 3:30 p.m. Wed., Oct. 14 and returned a half-hour later to find it stolen. A Greenwich Village resident parked his 2009 Jeep in front of 80 South St. at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 10 and found it gone when he returned the next day. A man who parked his 2000 Honda on the northwest corner of Water St. and Peck Slip at 3 p.m. Wed., Oct. 7 returned on Oct. 16 and found it had been stolen.
