Bias assault
Police are investigating an anti-gay assault of a man, 26, in front of P.S. 1 on Catherine and Henry Sts. at 5 a.m. Tues., Nov. 10. The victim told police that a man and a woman in their 30s shouted anti-gay remarks as they walked passed him and then punched him in the face and fled. The victim was treated at New York Downtown Hospital for minor injuries.
Arson at 17 Battery Pl.
Fire marshals investigating a series of fires on the 19th floor of 17 Battery Pl. arrested a suspect on Sun., Nov. 15 for arson. A 16-year-old boy, a resident in the famed Art Deco building, was charged with starting the fires that brought firefighters to the scene on Sept. 29, Oct. 9 and Nov. 11, according to Fire Marshal Jim Long. The investigation began after the second fire and the suspect was charged in Family Court.
Embezzlement charges
Police arrested Alicia Ifill, 26, on Tues., Nov. 10 and charged her with stealing $150,390 from her employers, MJA Services Construction Co., 156 William St., over a four-month period from June 2008 to Oct. 2009.
Ifill, who was manager of the company’s William St. office, issued 19 company checks over the four-month period without authority and deposited them in a Chase Bank account belonging to her and Odell Tom, her friend who is not charged. Ifill, a Brooklyn resident, pleaded not guilty to second degree grand larceny.
