Fatal accident
A private sanitation truck hit two pedestrians at E. 30th St. and Park Ave. S. on Friday night Dec. 15, leaving a woman dead and a man seriously injured, police said. The driver was going north on the avenue and making a right turn on 30th St. shortly before midnight when he hit the victims, who were crossing 30th St., police said. The driver remained at the scene. The woman, 22, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was declared dead at the scene, and the man, 29, was taken to Bellevue in serious condition.
Robbery arrest
Police arrested Ronald Dupree, 35, for the Thurs. Dec. 7 robbery of a man in the stairwell of a building on E. Third St. near First Ave. Police said Dupree and an accomplice, who has not been apprehended, confronted the victim at 10:30 p.m. and accused him of stealing a pair of rollerblades. Dupree then took $80 from the victim, and the accomplice reportedly took his cell phone, according to police.
Assault charge
Police charged Leopoldo Sguera, 38, with assault in connection with the Saturday morning Dec. 16 attack on his girlfriend, 31, in their E. Eighth St. apartment. The defendant punched her in the face and threatened to kill her, according to reports.
East Village fight
An argument between two acquaintances on Sunday morning Dec. 17 on Fourth Ave. near E. 12th St. turned violent when one of them began swinging. Police charged Bedri Oshlani with assault in connection with the incident.
Robs friend
A resident of 361 W. Broadway at Broome St. told police that a friend who was visiting him on Monday night Dec. 4 began an argument that ended when the friend punched him, stole his cell phone and fled.
Soho pickpocket
A woman patron of Diva, a club on West Broadway and Grand St., told police that someone had reached into the coat that she was wearing at about 3 a.m. Sun. Dec. 10 and made off with her wallet with $60 in cash, a driver’s license, assorted credit cards and I.D. cards.
Pod of iPods stolen
A man who walked into the Apple Store at 103 Prince St. at about 8:30 p.m. Thurs. Dec. 7 shoplifted 35 iPods valued at $3,000, police said. The thief, described as a black man about 30, wearing black leather pants, a black jacket and a black Yankees cap, was accompanied by four men, two described as Hispanic and two described as black, police said.
Hudson Square car theft
A woman who parked her 1997 Lexus at the corner of Greenwich and Spring Sts. at 9 p.m. Sat. Dec. 9 returned at 3 p.m. the following day and found it had been stolen, police said.
Soho car gone
A man who parked his 1997 Mitsubishi on West Broadway between Prince and Houston Sts. at 9:30 p.m. Thurs. Dec. 7 returned at 1:30 a.m. the next morning and discovered it had been stolen, police said.
