Stabbing arrest
A First Precinct anti-crime officer, Tim Wilson, arrested a woman on Washington St. near Rector on Saturday afternoon Feb 12 and charged her with stabbing a victim in the arm several times. Nikita Berry, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession.
DuFresne-related plea
A boy identified only as “Kashawn B.” pleaded guilty in Manhattan Family Court Mon. Feb.14 to second degree assault, in connection with an attempted robbery of a victim on the Lower East Side during the early hours of Jan. 27 shortly before Nicole duFresne was shot to death during a robbery at Rivington and Clinton Sts.
The boy and three others pulled a gun on Adam Chavez, 20, and then beat him while attempting to steal his leather jacket, law enforcement officials said. Police said the boy’s accomplices then took part in the duFresne robbery-murder but Kashawn was not charged in that crime.
Judge Mary Bednar remanded the boy to juvenile detention pending sentencing on Feb. 24.
Sexual abuse suspect
Police are looking for a man who sexually abused two 14-year-old Asian girls on the Lower East Side on the afternoon and evening of Feb. 3. The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic man between the ages of 35 – 45, 6 ft. tall and weighing 250 pounds, accosted the first victim at 3:30 p.m. in the stairwell of her building on Montgomery St. and grabbed her buttocks, police said. But the man fled when a resident of the building came out of his apartment. At 6:30 p.m. the suspect approached the second victim from behind in her Pike St. building and took her to the basement where he sexually abused her, police said. He fled when he was startled by a noise. Police issued a sketch of the suspect on Feb. 11 and are asking neighbors to phone Crimestoppers at 800 577 TIPS with any information.
Rap mogul charged
Irving Lorenzo, also known as Irv Gotti, a rap recording executive whose Crack House Studio and Murder Inc. label is located at 79 Mercer St. between Broome and Spring Sts. in Soho, was charged on Jan. 26 with laundering more than $1 million in drug money, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. A WPIX television reporter, Jackie Hyland, who was setting up outside the studio at 10 p.m. that day for a news broadcast about the indictment, was drenched when someone tossed a bucketful of water on her from a window in the four-story building, according to a Daily News report. Hyland filed a complaint about the incident with the First Precinct.
Lounge lift
A woman patron of Soho 323, a lounge at 323 West Broadway, lost her handbag with credit cards and $20 in cash to an unknown thief at about 2 a.m. Sat. Feb. 12, police said.
Antique heist
An employee of Gallery Gen at 158 Franklin St. told police that an unknown thief entered the store sometime before 8 p.m. on Sat. Feb. 12 and made off with an antique Japanese plate valued at $18,000.
Camera snatch
A man walking in Soho on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12 felt someone bump him at about 3 p.m. on Broadway and Spring St., and discovered his jacket pocket was opened and his camera was missing, police said.
Office theft
An office employee at 303 Broadway near Duane St. left her desk for a moment at 6 p.m. Thurs. Feb 10 and discovered when she returned that her bag, which she had placed behind the desk, was gone, police said. The bag contained $50 in cash, credit cards and personal documents.
Phone heist
A woman making a pay phone call on Broadway and Barclay St. at about 10 a.m. Sat. Feb 12 was bumped several times and discovered at the end of her 20-minute call that her wallet with $20 and several credit cards had been taken, police said.
Elevator bag
A woman who left her bag in an elevator in the Millenium Hilton Hotel, 55 Church St., during the early hours of Sun. Feb. 13, recovered it about 3 a.m. but $1,200 in cash was gone, police said.
Fast sandwich
A woman who hung her coat on the back of her chair in Blimpie’s at 29 John St. at about 4 p.m. Thurs. Feb. 10 lost the coat and her wallet to an unknown thief, police said. The coat was valued at $200 and the wallet had $20 in cash, credit cards and personal documents
