LEAVING SCENE OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: Take that, young(er) fella!

An unknown senior showed his 64-year-old junior on Sat., July 11 just how much he appreciated being asked to move his car. The latter man requested at about 5 p.m. that he park his car a bit forward on the 200 block of Seventh Ave. (btw. W. 24th & W. 25th Sts.) to accommodate his own automobile. But when the older man (estimated by police to be 80) did so, he reportedly decided to drive a message home. He put his black Ford Focus in reverse and smacked the other car. “Watch me leave,” the perpetrator said to his victim when informed of the collision. Police say he then skedaddled.

OBSTRUCTION: True identity elicits less trouble

A case of faked identity ended all the same for a 22-year-old man stopped near the Lincoln Tunnel on Sat., July 11. Police say they pulled over a car just after 9 p.m. that night for having only one operational headlight. The driver provided identification, registration and proof of insurance. Police informed the driver that the license was suspended and associated with outstanding warrants. Then the truth came out, as the arresting cop brought out the handcuffs. The suspect did not deny that he had a suspended license, but told police he did not have warrants. In fact, the name associated with the identification was his cousin’s, according to a police report. True to his word, the driver’s real license was also suspended. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor obstruction of government administration.

LEAVING SCENE OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: The bus keeping moving

Police say that an MTA bus (number 8819) fled the scene of a collision near the intersection of 10th Ave. & W. 30th St. on Thurs., July 9. A 26-year-old woman stayed on the scene with her battered 2010 Acura following the incident, which occurred just before 10:30 a.m. A police report did not state the cause nor nature of the collision. No injuries were reported.

ASSAULT: Recognizing the obvious

There was a certain trademark involved in a reported assault which occurred near the northeast corner of Ninth Ave. and W. 25th St. A 43-year-old man told police that another man punched him twice on the head at about 4:30 p.m. on Thurs., July 9. A police report did not state why, but the perpetrator reportedly wore a U-Haul uniform and fled the scene in a U-Haul pick-up truck. Police thus deduced that their suspect might just be attached to a U-Haul branch located four blocks away at 11th Ave. & W. 23rd St. They took the victim along for the ride. He identified the 23-year-old suspect at the location but decided not to press charges, police said.

GRAND LARCENY: Thief takes the finer things

One local thief has an apparent proclivity for Scotch and fine pearls. The unknown suspect pilfered both from an apartment located on the 200 block of W. 26th St. (btw. Seventh and Eight Aves.) over a two-month period stretching back to May 11, police say. The 32-year-old male victim lost at least five bottles of pricey booze as well as pink pearls and a fine pair of mother of pearl earrings. The loot totaled $2,550 and included a $250 bottle of Chichibu The First Scotch as well as a 25-year-old bottle of Arigil Nam Beist. A police report did not state how the unknown suspect might have entered the premises.
