Re “C.B. 1 nears completion of affordable housing guide,’ (news article, May 11)
In last week’s Downtown Express Aline Reynolds attributes a statement to Tom Goodkind in which he asserts that Southbridge Towers is in need of better maintenance.”
Assuming that the statement has been reported accurately, I must strongly disagree with its conclusion.
** Editor’s note: The article referenced in this letter did contain an inaccurate statement attributed to Tom Goodkind. Mr. Goodkind made no remark concerning the maintenance of Southbridge Towers.
Southbridge residents are justifiably proud of the outstanding performance our entire maintenance staff. The leadership team of Michael Stellman, our director of maintenance, Ange Boursiquot, our head superintendent, and Hackim Kahn, our assistant superintendent, are dedicated employees who do an exceptional job of providing direction and support for our 32 member maintenance staff.
This is no easy task for a development that is 40 years old and is comprised of nine buildings and 1,651 apartments. Typical of how the difficult becomes routine at Southbridge was the consistently fine snow removal effort that occurred throughout our sprawling grounds after each winter storm this winter. In addition to the fine work that is done by our staff, an active cooperator Buildings and Grounds committee meets every month to review cooperative needs and to plan capital improvement projects.
In recent years these capital improvement projects have included the replacement of the roofs, apartment windows and hallway tiles, and the painting of the hallways. Current projects include the upgrading of our security system, the reconstruction of the children’s playground area, the renovation of all nine lobbies, and beautification of the grounds that is the result of improved landscaping. In addition, both of our aging garages were fully reconstructed in the past year through our new leasing agreement with Icon Parking.
