A crazed man attacked a Queens straphanger with the butt of a knife while riding a subway train early on Monday morning, police reported.
According to police sources, the attack unfolded at around 1:40 a.m. on May 5 aboard a Manhattan-bound 7 train as it approached the 69th Street station in Woodside.
Cops say an unknown attacker began acting erratically and yelling near the victim, a 38-year-old man. As the outburst continued, police reported, the unstable suspect punched the commuter in the face, then struck him about the head with the butt of a knife.
Authorities said the bloodied, beaten victim staggered off the 7 train at the next stop, Woodside-61st Street; his attacker, however, remained on the train.
The incident was reported to the 108th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 20. EMS rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of a head laceration.
Police did not immediately provide a description of the suspect. So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
