Jan. 15, aboard New York Waterway ferry Thomas Jefferson, passengers and crew of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 — a.k.a. “The Miracle on the Hudson” — returned to the spot in the Hudson River where Captain Chesley Sullenberger, a.k.a. Sully, right, successfully ditched a year before on Jan. 15, 2009. They celebrated with a vodka screwdriver toast. In the harrowing “bird strike” incident, geese had flown into the plane’s engines, knocking out the plane’s power, and Sullenberger did a perfect, gliding, splash landing in the river, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. Commuter ferries quickly arrived to help rescue the passengers, who had escaped from the plane and were standing on the floating plane’s wings in cold water up to their waists.
