Manhattan detectives are still looking for three men who set a homeless man on fire as he slept outside of Penn Station on Monday night.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded just after 8:30 p.m. on March 2 as the 37-year-old victim lay on the sidewalk at the corner of West 31st Street and 8th Avenue, near the Amtrak portion of the bustling Midtown transit hub.
Cops say the perpetrators approached the individual as he slept and set fire to his clothing.
The suspects fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction after the attack, police sources said. The motive remains unknown and under investigation.
EMS responded and extinguished the flames before rushing him to the burn unit at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center with second-degree burns. He was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Police say one of the suspects was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans, while a second perpetrator wore a brown jacket and grey pants. The final suspect wore all black clothing and had shoulder-length hair.
No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police sources said Tuesday.
