Li Na, the 2001 French Open women’s singles champion, is coming to Downtown. Na, the first Asian country representative to win a Grand Slam singles title, will be visiting Chinatown on Monday, Aug. 22 before making a run for another Grand Slam Championship title at the 2011 U.S. Open.
She will be appearing at the Mobile SmashZone, a mobile tennis program for youths held at Sara D. Roosevelt park in Chinatown that day. Na will partake in tennis activities with participating children from the neighborhood to promote health and fitness in the Asian community. She will also be signing autographs.
SmashZone Mobile, which is handicap-accessible, consists of a 53-foot trailer that anchors four kid-sized tennis courts and is a complement to the U.S. Tennis Association’s ongoing youth participation initiative, “10 and Under Tennis.”
