The first-ever Hudson River Dance Festival will feature three major dance companies in free outdoor performances at Pier 63 this month.
The Paul Taylor Dance Company, Parsons Dance and Ballet Hispanico will light up the pier — in Hudson River Park near the deadhead of W. 23rd St. — at 6:30 p.m. Wed. June 17 and Thurs. June 18. The same composite program will be featured each evening.
The Paul Taylor Dance Company will perform its renown WWII-referencing work, “Company B,” to popular songs by the Andrews Sisters. Parsons Dance will perform “Nascimento,” the colorful samba-inflected tribute danced to music written for the company by Milton Nascimento.
Six male dancers from Ballet Hispanico will kick up their heels in the athletic tour de force “Sombrerisimo,” created by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. This dance, which references the surrealist world of Rene Magritte, was commissioned by New York City Center for the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival.
