Tim-ber-rrr! Chainsaws roar in Washington Square

Last Friday, workers began cutting down trees in Washington Square Park as part of the park’s renovation project. Between nine and 14 of the park’s trees are being felled for the renovation’s first phase, which is budgeted at more than $11 million. Above, workers fed parts of felled trees into a mulcher, left, while another used a chainsaw to cut parts of tree trunks and branches into smaller pieces.
