A regional traffic study council, whose office in the World Trade Center was destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 when three of its employees died, returned to Lower Manhattan this week.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new office of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council on the 22nd floor of 199 Water St. on Thursday, Nov. 18 included the announcement of a Sept. 11 Memorial Program for Regional Transportation Planning in memory of Charles Lesperance, Ignatiuus Adanga and See Wong Sum, who perished in the attack.
The new program will explore new concepts and enhance public participation in transportation issues.
Joseph Boardman, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Transportation, congratulated the NYMTC staff on the return to Downtown.
The Council includes government and transportation officials New York City, Nassau, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester Counties and provides a planning forum for the region.
