ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS SCHEDULED TO BE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK, CHECK 311 FOR UPDATES
More snow is expected this week, which means there’s a chance that alternate side parking rules will be suspended and transit will be delayed. Check 311, follow me on Twitter @GridlockSam, or visit the newly launched Gridlock Sam website for the most up-to-date traffic news.
It’s a busy time of preparation in Lower Manhattan! Fashion Week and the NBA All-Star Weekend are both gearing up. Although Fashion Week doesn’t officially start until Thursday (2/12), it’s already causing traffic troubles. Watch out for slowdowns on Varick between Laight and Beach Sts. and St. John’s Pl. between Beach and York Sts. – it might make you unfashionably late throughout the day Monday through Wednesday.
Prep work for the NBA All-Star Weekend with events at Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden means delays on First Pl. between Battery and Little West St., Little West St. between Battery Pl. andFirst Pl., and Battery Pl. betweenFirst Pl. and West St. Tuesday and Wednesday.
Both Hudson River tunnels will be impacted by maintenance this coming week, causing late-night gridlock in the vicinity of the Holland Tunnel. In the Lincoln Tunnel, one New York-bound tube will be closed 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. This will send drivers south to the Holland Tunnel where one New York-bound lane and one New Jersey-bound lane will be closed during the same period. Expect late night delays and extra traffic on Canal and Varick Sts.
On the Brooklyn Bridge, all lanes will remain open through Sunday. All Manhattan-bound lanes will close 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights. Expect extra traffic on the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, as well as in the Battery Tunnel. Canal, Delancey, and West Sts. will slow down correspondingly.
On West St./Route 9A, one southbound lane from Vesey St. to West Thames St. will be closed 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Thursday and Friday.
