Transit Sam: Week of July 21, 2016

Dates: Thursday, July 21- Wednesday, July 27

ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK

The NYC Triathlon early Sunday morning means domino effects on the west side: The northbound Henry Hudson Parkway will be closed from 57th St. to the Henry Hudson Bridge from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, slowing northbound traffic along the West Side Highway. Of course this means diversions in Lower Manhattan from the Battery Tunnel through the underpass to the FDR Drive. Be sure to follow me on Twitter @GridlockSam and check the website www.GridlockSam.com for more updates on closures as the week goes on.

Closures on the FDR and Holland Tunnel are in the forecast for this week. On the FDR, one lane will close in each direction on Friday and Thursday nights between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. at Dover St. near the Brooklyn Bridge.  On Saturday, two lanes will close in both directions between Catherine Slip and Jackson St. from midnight to 6:30 a.m.

The Lincoln Tunnel has a closure on Thursday starting at 11 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m. Friday morning, closing one tube. Traffic will be maintained in both directions in the remaining tube. Expect extra traffic in the Holland Tunnel.

In the Holland Tunnel, one eastbound tunnel lane will close on Thursday from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday morning, slowing inbound traffic. Anticipate delays on Canal Street.

Festivals continue on in the heat of the summer! The Downtown Independent Democrats Festival on Sunday will close down Liberty St. between Broadway and Church St. between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. The Asian American Heritage DOT Weekend Walk will close Mott St. between Canal and Worth Sts. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

On Monday there will be a “USA Out of Puerto Rico” demonstration from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with people gathering in Federal Plaza, potentially causing traffic delays on Broadway, Lafayette St. and Worth St.

The following Lower Manhattan streets will be closed all week: Thames St. between Greenwich St. and Trinity Pl., Fletcher St. between Front and South Sts., and Avenue D between 12th and 13th Sts.

For those taking transit, watch out for some train changes this weekend. The 5 train will not be running between Grand Central-42nd St and Bowling Green from midnight to 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday nights, so take the 4, 6, or R trains instead. The A, C, and E trains are running on the F line in both directions between W. 4 St. and Jay St-Metro Tech from midnight to 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday nights.
