ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE SUSPENDED WEDNESDAY FOR VETERANS DAY
Happy Veterans Day! Transit Sam salutes all of our courageous veterans. To honor the day, the Veterans Day Festival will close Broadway between Liberty St. and Battery Pl. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Expect West St. southbound to pick up the slack, but with government offices closed, traffic should move reasonably well.
The Veterans Day Parade in Midtown will close Fifth Ave. between 23rd and 53rd Sts., Broadway between 23rd and 25th Sts., 26th and 27th Sts. between Broadway and Park Ave., and 28th and 29th Sts. between Broadway and Madison Ave. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans will start assembling an hour earlier, so please show respect and avoid driving in the area. Lower Manhattan will see impacts when drivers headed crosstown take 14th and Houston Sts. as they switch from the Lincoln Tunnel to the Holland Tunnel.
The Jets play the Jaguars at 1 p.m. Sunday at Metlife Stadium. Fan traffic to and from the game will clog up the Lincoln Tunnel, sending drivers down to the Holland. Expect slowdowns before and after the game.
All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each weeknight this week.
The Stone Street Pedestrian Mall will close Stone St. between Broad St. and Hanover Sq., and Mill Ln. between William and Stone Sts. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day this week.
The National Kidney Foundation Walk will close Lafayette and Centre Sts. from Worth St. to the Brooklyn Bridge 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

We have two winners in Transit Sam’s Trivia question for the correct pronunciation of Vesey Street!
The winners are Steve B. and Maureen Vesey G. who write, “Vesey Street is named after the first Rector of Trinity Church, the Reverend William Vesey, who served from 1697 to 1746. Vesey is an English name of French derivation which according to MacLysaght, “The Surnames of Ireland,” has 28 variant forms in England. The surname Vesey is also found in County Mayo, Ireland. My father, Peter Vesey came from County Mayo and as long as I can remember, he and others always pronounced the name Vesey ‘Vee Zee.’ ”
Steve and Maureen will both receive signed copies of Street Smart: The Rise of Cities and the Fall of Cars.
