Villager’s bringing Sexies back

Villager associate editor Lincoln Anderson and reporter Jefferson Siegel thought they were simply co-writing an objective report on the West Village Leather Street Fest on Weehawken St. when they covered the one-block-long event and the surrounding firestorm of controversy last October. It turns out they were actually helping blaze a path for a better understanding and appreciation of sexuality: The presidentially named pair learned Monday that their article, “Media, critics get whipped into a frenzy over Leatherfest,” won a Sexy. The article garnered third place in the 2008 Sex-Positive Journalism Awards (www.sexies.org) in the general-topic news category for publications other than daily newspapers. The Villager’s entry was nominated by a reader, said Miriam Axel-Lute, a Sexies board member. Anderson and Siegel will get their Sexies at an awards ceremony in October.
