Viva Uruguay

Uruguayans celebrated their independence day Saturday at Soho Square near the statue of Gen. Jose Artigas, the country’s father of independence. The celebration was two days before the anniversary of the nation’s historic day, Aug. 25, 1825. The plaza is on Sixth Ave. between Spring and Broome Sts. and is near six other statues on the avenue honoring various Latin American heroes.
