A 33-year-old man was stabbed in Washington Heights by an assailant walking a dog who allegedly told him, “They sent me to do this to you,” police sources said.

Cops in Upper Manhattan are now asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect, who was caught on surveillance footage following the attack.

The stabbing occurred around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, at the corner of West 162nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue Police said the victim was sitting on the sidewalk when the suspect approached without warning, pulled out a sharp object, and stabbed him multiple times in the leg.

The suspect then fled south on Amsterdam Avenue with the dog in tow. EMS took the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in stable condition.

Cops have not yet determined a motive as the investigation continues, police said. The victim did not recognize the suspect or understand who “they” referred to in the chilling remark made before the assault, according to sources.

The suspect is described as a man with a light complexion, last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, and tan shoes.

As of June 15, the 33rd Precinct, which covers Washington Heights has recorded 111 assaults in 2025 — a slight drop from 116 during the same period last year, per the latest NYPD data.

Anyone with information in relation to the stabbing is asked to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or, in Spanish, 888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org.
