The New York Giants have fired offensive line coach Marc Colombo and are replacing him with long-time NFL assistant Dave DeGuglielmo, according to multiple reports.
Colombo — a former offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys under current Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett — was in his first year at the position where he was brought on by rookie head coach, Joe Judge.
It’s a move that has taken the football world by surprise considering the Giants won their last two games and their offensive line showed considerable improvement over their last three outings, rushing for more than 150 yards each week during that stretch.
Reports, however, indicate that Judge has been working with the offensive line more and more in recent weeks, which could have prompted the move.
There was speculation that a physical altercation took place between Colombo and Judge, but it was quickly shot down by multiple of the team’s beat reporters.
DeGuglielmo has links with both the Giants and Judge. He was an assistant offensive line coach and quality control with the team from 2004-2008 and also worked with Judge in New England when he coached the Patriots’ offensive line between 2014-2015. Judge originally interviewed DeGuglielmo for the offensive line coach job earlier this year.
