English striker and Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy has no plans to retire after his contract with the Foxes expired on June 30, and rumors have been circulating about a potential stop in the United States, particularly the New York Red Bulls.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reported earlier this week that New York was among six teams, including RB Salzburg from Austria, newly promoted English side Leeds United, Spain’s Villarreal and Valencia, and fellow MLS club Charlotte FC, that were interested in the 38-year-old, who spent 13 seasons at Leicester.
Multiple sources, however, have told amNewYork that there is nothing brewing between the Red Bulls and Vardy.
It would be difficult to see where the Englishman would fit within New York’s ranks. For an aging forward keen on proving that he can still perform at a high level, the Red Bulls already have Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up top and Lewis Morgan on the cusp of returning from knee surgery that he underwent in March.
The Red Bulls also have an intriguing prospect emerging in 20-year-old Mohammed Sofo. Since hastily replacing Morgan at the beginning of the season, he has scored seven goals in 12 matches.
Vardy scored nine goals in 35 matches this season, finishing his Leicester career as the club’s all-time Premier League goal-scoring leader with 145. Only 13 other men in the history of the league have scored more.
He was a key figure in the miracle Leicester side that won the Premier League in 2016. He earned 26 caps for England and scored seven goals.
