For the second time in five days, the Mets had no answer for Zac Gallen in Tuesday night’s 5-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

The right-handed ace, who went 1-4 with a 5.57 ERA in his first six starts of the 2025 season, held New York to just two runs on four hits with 14 strikeouts across 13 innings of work in consecutive starts, the first coming on May 1 at Citi Field.

On Tuesday night in Arizona, Gallen went seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six with three walks. All three of those free passes came in succession in the third inning and with two outs.

After Tyrone Taylor beat out a double play, Gallen walked Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso to give the Mets a 1-0 lead, which is all they would be able to muster offensively.

Gallen responded by retiring the next 11 men he faced before yielding a one-out, seventh-inning single to Mark Vientos. Jeff McNeil, the next batter, grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Mets starter David Peterson allowed four runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks to get saddled with his second loss of the season.

Josh Naylor’s groundout scored Randal Grichuk from third to tie the game in the fourth inning before another force out by Geraldo Perdomo scored Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from third two batters later.

Gurriel smacked a two-run homer run, his sixth of the year, in the sixth to extend Arizona’s advantage to 4-1.

The Mets (23-14) have hit a snag since the calendar flipped to May. They have lost five of their last seven and are 5-7 in their last 12 dating back to April 25.
