Memorial Day weekend: Subway, NJ Transit, LIRR, Metro-North service changes for holiday

The MTA and New Jersey Transit kicked off the unofficial start to summer by offering additional train service to help commuters get home as fast as possible on Friday.

But the holiday weekend will also mean scheduled service changes on Monday across commuter lines and the subways.

NJ Transit

Saturday and Sunday

There will be hourly service on the Bay Head-Long Branch shuttle between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Monday

Trains will operate on a weekend/major holiday schedule across all lines.

Long Island Rail Road

Saturday and Sunday

Trains will run on regular weekend schedules.

Monday

Trains will operate on a holiday schedule.

Subways, Friday night to Tuesday morning

No. 1 trains

Normal weekend service

No. 2 trains

Trains in Manhattan will replace 3 trains between 135th and Chambers streets.

Trains will replace 3 trains between Chambers Street in Manhattan and Franklin Street in Brooklyn (5 a.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday).

Trains in the Bronx will replace 5 trains between East 180th Street and Dyre Avenue. Dyre Avenue-bound trains will skip Morris Park, Pelham Parkway, Gun Hill Road and Baychester Avenue during this time (11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday).

Service between Chambers Street in Manhattan and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn will be replaced by 5 trains (11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday).

No. 3 trains

No trains running. Service will be replaced by 2 and 4 trains and free shuttle buses.

No. 4 trains

Trains in Brooklyn will replace 3 trains between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and New Lots Avenue.

New Lots Avenue-bound trains in the Bronx will skip Mosholu Parkway, Bedford Park Boulevard, Kingsbridge Road, Fordham Road and 183th Street (Saturday and Sunday, 6:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

No. 5 trains

Uptown trains in the Bronx will skip Bronx Park East, Pelham Parkway, Allerton, Burke Avenues, 219th, 225th, 233rd streets and Nereid Avenue (Saturday and Sunday, 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

No. 6 trains

Pelham Bay Park-bound trains in the Bronx will skip Brook Avenue, Cypress Avenue, East 143rd Street, East 149th Street and Longwood Avenue (11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday).

No. 7 trains

Normal weekend service.

A trains

Normal weekend service.

C trains

Normal weekend service.

E trains

Service at 36th Street, Steinway Street, 46th Street, Northern Boulevard and 65th Street in Queens will be replaced by free shuttle buses.

B trains

B trains do not run on weekends or holidays.

D trains

Coney Island-bound trains will skip 174th-175th, 170th, 167th and 161st streets in the Bronx and 155th Street in Manhattan.

Coney Island-bound trains in Brooklyn will skip Union Street, 4th Avenue-9th Street, Prospect Avenue and 25th Street.

Trains will run approximately every 12 minutes (days and evenings).

F trains

Normal weekend service.

M trains

Service in Manhattan will be extended to the 96th Street Q train station (10 p.m. Friday to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, 6 a.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday, 6 a.m. Sunday to 1:30 a.m. Monday, 6 a.m. Monday to 1:30 a.m. Tuesday).

G trains

Normal weekend service.

J trains

Service between Broadway Junction in Brooklyn and Jamaica Center in Queens will be replaced by free shuttle buses and E trains (3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday).

L trains

Trains will run every 20 minutes between Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

N trains

Coney Island-bound trains in Brooklyn will skip Union Street, 4th Avenue-9th Street, Prospect Avenue and 25th Street (nights).

Q trains

Coney Island-bound trains in Brooklyn will run express from Prospect Park to Sheepshead Bay (Saturday and Sunday, 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.).

R trains

Bay Ridge-bound trains in Brooklyn will skip Union Street, 4th Avenue-9th Street, Prospect Avenue and 25th Street.

Service at 36th Street, Steinway Street, 46th Street, Northern Boulevard and 65th Street in Queens will be replaced by free shuttle buses.

W trains

W trains do not run on weekends or holidays.

S shuttle

42nd Street Shuttle service will run overnight.

Z train

Z trains do not run on weekends or holidays.
