City trains and buses will operate on special holiday schedules for Christmas this week.

There will be regular weekday train and bus service on Christmas Eve, with additional Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North and Staten Island rail service in the afternoon for the rush of people leaving the city. In Staten Island, however, there will be nine limited stop routes out of service.

On Christmas Day, the subway and buses will run on a Sunday schedule, while the two commuter rail lines will operate on special holiday schedules posted on timetables.

The following Thursday and Friday will have normal subway and bus schedules, though there will be additional late-morning Metro-North service into the city and reduced morning peak service.
