NYC holiday pop-up bars: Miracle, Sleyenda and more

Get into the holiday spirit by imbibing some spirits.

With winter right around the corner, city bars are rolling out specialty cocktails created for the year's most festive season and decorating their halls with wreaths, sparkly reindeer and candy lollipops.

If you're seeking spiked hot chocolate, a place where it's publicly acceptable to listen to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" on repeat, or just an incredibly elaborate facsimile of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, these watering holes have your needs covered.

The Lodge at Gallow Green

In the winter months, the McKittrick Hotel's whimsical garden rooftop bar Gallow Green transforms into a mountainside ski lodge, complete with fireside seating, plaid blankets, sleeping bunks and outdoor fire pit. Order the Sleep No More, a hard apple cider drink with sherry, orange zest and pie spices, to warm yourself up when you arrive. When you get peckish, you'll have your choice of small plates like crab artichoke dip and lamb meatball sliders, salads and pizzas with toppings such as Gruyère, oyster mushrooms and bacon. A blend of mezcal, coffee liqueur and chocolate bitters served with chocolate biscotti -- a craft cocktail called Clouds in My Coffee -- makes for a sweet finish to your cozy evening. Winter Room at The Roof

This lounge and terrace atop the Viceroy Hotel in midtown still has the same Central Park views, but it's been transformed into a winter landscape, complete with fake frosted branches and holiday wreaths. On the seasonal menu are $18 warm cocktails like a rooftop toddy (spiced rum, hot apple cider and cinnamon), and plates to share with the entire table. Sleyenda at Leyenda

Leyenda co-owners Ivy Mix and Julie Reiner are transforming their Cobble Hill bar into Sleyenda this holiday season, a Latin-inflected tribute to lady pop icons who "sleigh." Joining Leyenda's year-round, pan-Latin cocktail menu are specials like a mezcal-spiked Mexican hot chocolate, a coquito (the Puerto Rican version of egg nog) and The Nutcracker, a drink that tastes like boozy pecan pie. Miracle on Ninth

Miracle returns to the East Village cocktail bar Mace on Nov. 24, with four new drinks for 2017: How the Gimlet Stole Christmas (gin with a pine-carraway-sage cordial); Run Run Rudolph (an iced hot chocolate with tequila, coffee liqueur and Mexican spices, pictured); You'll Shoot Your Rye Out (pumpkin-spiced rye whiskey, Budweiser-marshmallow syrup and egg); and Fa La La La La, La La La La (gin, aquavit, hazelnut liqueur, cardamom, vanilla, lemon, egg white and club soda). The Hygge at PHD Terrace

The rooftop bar at the Dream hotel in midtown is bringing the Danish concept of "hygge," pronounced "hoo-ga," to life with cozy decorations like cable knit blankets and pillows, and comfort food like a warm s'mores dip served with graham crackers (pictured, $16). Stave off the winter blues with a glass of boozy hot chocolate topped off with vanilla ice cream in your hand ($14) or a spiked milkshake drizzled with caramel. Cocktail Factory at LOCL

Talk about a "world of pure imagination." This recreation of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory at NYLO Hotel's LOCL Bar on the Upper West Side will feature giant lollipops, candy-cane handrails, mushroom seats, a candy store and a "champagne bubble room." The bar itself will transform into a "Cocktail Factory," decorated with tubes of streaming colored liquid, beakers and dry ice. On the cocktail list engineered for adults who crave sugar are drinks like the Violette, You're Turning Violette (a tequila, pineapple and Creme de Violette blend that will stain your mouth blue), and the Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberies (a gin-infused tribute to Roald Dahl's imaginary fruit, pictured). If you're lucky, you could win one of five golden tickets distributed every night, guaranteeing two free drinks. One dollar from every cocktail purchased at the Cocktail Factory goes to the Save the Children, a children's rights nonprofit. Winter Holiday Garden at Midnights

For the colder weather, the Williamsburg bar transforms its outdoor space into a tented "winter garden" with fire pits, strings of holiday lights, candles and bedecked Christmas trees. Enjoy the ambiance over dinner, brunch or seasonal cocktails, like Mexican peppermint hot chocolate spiked with a shot of your choice and Pistol Pete's Boozy Cider, kicked up a notch with bourbon and apple brandy ($15 a cup).
