Actress Amber Heard has withdrawn her request for temporary spousal support in her divorce proceedings with Johnny Depp, while retaining the right to request support at a later date.
TMZ.com said Heard’s attorney filed a declaration Tuesday rescinding the request, with that court document stating Heard filed the request only as standard procedure and that it was then “used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence.”
Documents that Heard, 30, filed in the divorce proceeding that she initiated on May 23 claim that “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise star Depp, 53, earned $30 million last year, TMZ said.
The declaration comes ahead of a hearing scheduled for Friday in which the court will hear arguments on making permanent a current temporary restraining order against Depp.
Troy Slaten, an attorney unrelated to the case, told E! News on Tuesday that even if Heard is granted a permanent restraining order, it likely would not affect the amount of any spousal support. “The spousal support is going to be rather slim because they were only married for 15 months, so that means usually they give one and a half to two times the amount of the time they were married,” Slaten said. “She would be looking at a maximum of 30 months for spousal support.”
Heard, who married Depp in February 2015, has alleged among other claims that Depp hit her in the face with his iPhone two days before she filed for divorce.
