As is not unusual for native Manhattanites, pop star and activist Lady Gaga has obtained her driver’s license at the relatively late age of 30.
“Thelma and Puhleaaaze (And yes I FINALLY got my license after years of driving w an adult present and a learners permit),” Gaga captioned a photo of herself Friday in the driver’s seat of a car with an unidentified other woman. “IM FREE Rollin w the homies.”
On Saturday, she followed up with two images. One showed her alone in a room behind one of several school desks. “Me at the DMV. SCHOOLS OUT,” she wrote. The second showed her comically on her hands and knees in a praising pose beside a white Mercedes-Benz, with a woman in a white pantsuit, evidently a test administrator, watching with what appears to be a bemused expression. “And after I passed my driving test. PRAISE HIM,” Gaga wrote.
She has not commented on her Twitter page other than having a banner image of herself behind the wheel of what appears to be a black Chevrolet El Camino.
Gaga had been working on obtaining her full license for some time, tweeting to an unspecified miscreant on April 5, 2012, “Maybe while I’m learning to drive you don’t need to sneak up on me and stick your GIANT camera IN A MOVING VEHICLE.”
The singer-songwriter — who was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Grammy Award this year with co-writer Diane Warren for the song “Til It Happens To You” from the documentary “The Hunting Ground” — was in the news last week after incurring China’s displeasure for meeting with the Dalai Lama on June 26 in Indianapolis, where the Tibetan spiritual leader was delivering the keynote address at the annual United States Conference of Mayors.
