Freshly unwrapped on Wednesday, Candytopia offers another Insta-centric, expansive exhibit, should your feed be in need of some color. And if you’re going to pay for yet another “experience,” it might as well come with artwork made of candy pieces, eh?
One of the nearly 12 rooms is a gallery featuring portraits (hey, Cardi B and Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka) and re-creations; an Andy Warhol (er, Candy Warhol) “Soup Can,” the title card tells us, is made of 2,900 pieces of candy and took 71 hours to construct. Other spaces provide underwater adventures (hello, gummy shark) and fantastical creatures (‘sup, confetti-tooting pig). Throughout, visitors can grab handfuls of candy and submerge in a pool of “marshmallows.”
The selfie room awaits.

A recently opened glamping experience counts public transit accessibility among its selling points.
True, you may want a good audiobook for your commute to Camp Rockaway at Jacob Riis Park in Queens: It’s a subway to a bus, or take advantage of summertime beach buses that depart from four Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. (Or ferry it.) But once there, you’ll stay on the grounds of an historic, Art Deco bathhouse, refurbished as Riis Park Beach Bazaar, with food and entertainment (including pool tables and a video arcade). A dozen canvas tents, furnished with queen-sized beds (linens provided) and solar-powered fans and lights, sport small decks with lounge chairs. The accommodations are just a quick stroll to the beach, so you can sleep to the sounds and scents of the Atlantic Ocean (which we hear is pretty stellar by day as well).
Camp Rockaway, incidentally, isn’t your only new option to glamp where none had glamped before. Governors Island opened to overnighters in July.

We know that our city is home to some great eats but, let’s face it, sometimes we’re lazy — we prefer “busy” — and don’t always push ourselves beyond our routines. That’s part of the appeal of rankings, right?
The latest from Lonely Planet is “Ultimate Eats: The World’s Top 500 Food Experiences,” and NYC offerings show up nine times. That sounds like a perfect weekend project.
And while we may question the placement of some items — really, the knish at Yonah Schimmel all the way down at 499?!? — any excuse to savor a Cronut, Reuben and cheesecake works for us.
