Smorgasburg is hitting some new waterfront this summer: the Atlantic Ocean.
The popular food market will take up residence in a 50,000 square-foot lot in Coney Island, serving beer, wine and other drinks as part of a new Thor Equities public art project called Coney Art Walls. “Coney Smorgasburg” hopes to open May 22 and will be open everyday through Memorial Day. It will then be open Friday – Sunday for the next four weekends followed by every day of the week June 22 – Labor Day. Hours are 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., subject to change.
The vendors will be houses inside 13 shipping containers on the lot and each is being custom built to include AC, washing sinks and electricity.
Nine food vendors and 1 dessert vendor are confirmed but Smorgasburg is still looking for another food and dessert vendor. Apply by emailing info@brooklynflea.com.
Vendors include: Bon Chovie, La Newyorkina, Mile End, Mofongo, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Excell Kingston Eatery (jerk chicken, fresh coconuts), El Super (beer-battered tacos, etc.) and more.
Also new at Coney Smorgasburg: Smorgasbeer, a light pilsner created by KelSo Beer Co. in Clinton Hill.
Coney Art Walls is curated by famed gallerist Jeffrey Deitch and Joseph J. Sitt and will be located at 1320 Bowery St., the same location as Smorgasburg. There will also be a music stage with live bands and performances all summer.
See you at Coney!
