Christian Louboutin enters beauty biz with $50 nail polish

Will you pay $50 for a bottle of nail polish? Apparently Christian Louboutin, the French shoe designer of the lust-worthy red soled shoes, is betting yes.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Louboutin will enter the beauty business, with a new collection of Christian Louboutin Beauté polishes packaged in tall spiky bottles that conjure high-heels.

First to hit the market on Wednesday — a fiery red enamel (of course!) dubbed Rouge Louboutin — which will be sold at the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and 15 Louboutin boutiques around the United States. WWD reports that the additional distribution at Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and select Sephora will hit on Aug. 6, and 30 remaining shades will become available throughout the United States on Aug. 31.

It’s not such a huge leap for Louboutin to sell nail polish. Lore has it that more than 20 years ago, the designer, in an attempt to set his shoes apart in the marketplace, painted the soles with a brilliant red nail lacquer.  Voila, a signature was born.

According to WWD, the product supposedly has the highest percentage of pigment in the industry and each faceted crystal bottle takes 22 weeks to make.

So will you splurge? In all fairness, it’s much cheaper than a pair of Loubs which can easily run you $1,000.
