Bronx detectives are searching for the gunman who fatally shot a 39-year-old man Wednesday afternoon following a dispute in the Eastchester section of the borough, police said.
Officers from the NYPD’s 47th Precinct responded around 3:46 p.m. to a 911 call reporting an assault outside 3370 Baychester Ave., where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said.
Emergency medical services transported the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the suspect, a Black male wearing a brown and white sweatsuit, fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made.
Law enforcement sources said a physical altercation occurred before the shooting, though the cause of the dispute remains under investigation. Officers reportedly recovered a knife and ballistic evidence at the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.
As of April 27, the 47th Precinct had reported four other homicides and 10 shooting incidents this year. According to the latest NYPD data, shooting incidents in the precinct are up 35% from the same period in 2024, and homicides have increased from one.
