* Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia paid an “unexpected visit” to Greenwich Village, where he was born and raised, to attend a reception in honor of Mrs. LaGuardia by the Greenwich Village Neighborhood Association at Greenwich House on Barrow St. More than 400 Villagers, many of them the mayor’s old friends, were there to greet the city’s first citizen, The Villager reported. There were varied explanations of the mayor’s visit: Some Association members said he was invited, but it wasn’t known if he would be present; others said he didn’t want his acceptance to be announced. The mayor laughed when asked about it. “Perhaps I am an uninvited guest,” he said. “Perhaps I wasn’t even wanted. But I’m glad to be here all the same.”
* Mrs. Juliana Force, Chairman of the New York Regional Committee of the Public Works of Art Project, announced that the quota of artists to be employed in the region has been filled. No additional artists could be employed or registrations handled.
