The Parks Dept. this week released a rendering of the proposed park at Canal and Varick Sts. The project has hit several financing and other delays over the years, but Parks hopes to begin construction this fall, said Carli Smith, an agency spokesperson.

The Lower Manhattan Development Corp. will provide $2 million of the park’s cost and the Milstein Foundation the other $500,000. The agency is waiting for the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development to release the funds for the L.M.D.C. project.

The not-yet-named park is expected to open next year. Tribeca Film Festival organizers have planted a temporary lawn in the space just in time for the movie fest’s opening next week. Smith said the lawn is likely to remain until park construction begins.
