A view of — and through — the arch

The scaffolding on the Washington Sq. Arch finally came down on Sunday, revealing the results of the renovation effort on the historic marble monument, Greenwich Village’s landmark symbol. Although exterior repairs are largely complete, some interior electrical work and other final touches still remain. A spring ribbon cutting is planned. The photos above show the arch viewed from the north from different angles. From each perspective, either one of the large new New York University buildings south of the square fills the arch’s interior — the Kimmel Center for University Life, on the left, and the new N.Y.U. School of Law, rising behind the Judson Church campanile, on the right.
