Last Wednesday, Mayor Mike Bloomberg presided over a ceremony at 66 E. Fourth St., one of six city-owned buildings being transferred for $1 each to 10 cultural institutions that are part of the Fourth Arts Block. From left, Kim Greer, former City Councilmember Margarita Lopez, Ellen Stewart of La Mama Theater, the mayor, Vivia D’Angelo and Jose Oliveras. At the event, Lopez also dubbed the mayor an “honorary lesbian.” “Let the record show the mayor moved right along after that,” Bloomberg said moments later with a smile. The mayor indicated he would “find some ways” to continue working with Lopez, who lost her seat under term limits. Steve Herrick, executive director of the Cooper Square Committee, said because the “honorary lesbian” comment dominated the news articles on the event and their headlines, he was left without any clips to send out promoting the Fourth Arts Block.
