At last, a spot for small ‘Spots’ to run

Aubrey Lees, chairperson of Board 2’s parks committee and a leading activist for a separate dog run for small dogs in Washington Sq. Park, said the dog run group will meet with Bill Castro, the Manhattan borough Parks Department commissioner, this week and that Castro will tell them where they plan to put the facility. The location will be somewhere near the park’s existing dog run but not too near the play mounds. Lees said they will also present Castro with a check for $5,000 that they’ve raised so far for the project. Lees said Parks has put the total cost at $10,000 to $12,000 and that the activists will continue to fundraise to reach that amount, but that Parks will provide the labor for building the run. “At this point, we just want to build,” Lees said, adding that she is interested to see where all the money goes, since she feels the project’s price tag is rather expensive.
