Hit-and-run victim Olga Cook was memorialized on July 14 with the placement of a “ghost bike” at the notorious Chambers St. intersection in Battery Park City where she was killed while cycling along the Hudson River Greenway a month earlier. The Street Memorial Project of Ghostbikes.org seeks to raise awareness about hazards facing city cyclists by permanently installing white-painted bicycle memorials at the sites of fatal accidents. About 150 ghost bikes have been placed throughout the city since 2005. Cook’s ghost bike was festooned with sunflowers, her favorite.
