The Reflecting Absence memorial design by Michael Arad, and Peter Walker includes two voids at the footprints of the Twin Towers and will be near the proposed Freedom Tower, right. There will be a tomb of unidentified remains at the bedrock level of the North Footprint, left. Above, steps along Liberty St. will lead to the memorial plaza and groves of trees designed by Walker. Construction of the memorial’s substructure is expected to be done in 2006, and the $350 million design could open in 2007.
