Singers wanted
The Down Town Glee Club is still going strong after 77 years, and is currently recruiting new members for their winter performance.
The group originally attracting Wall Street financiers, now has a mix of participants, including teachers, advertisers, and journalists as well as those in the financial profession. The all-male group comes together once a week for nine months of the year to rehearse choral music for two hours in preparation for two concerts – a winter concert and a spring concert – every season in New York City.
Rehearsals for the 2004 –2005 season take place on Tuesdays between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 7th. There will be open auditions, for those with or without prior experience, at the same time and location on Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28.

Dog tales
There were a lot of false rumors about the convention floating around this week. If we had to pick our favorite it would be the one that Barney Bush, as in the nation’s First Dog, was going to appear at Tompkins Sq. Park Thursday, a few hours before his owner accepted the Republican nomination for president. The park has been a center for E. Village political activism for decades and it is hard to imagine a park anywhere in America where Barney would be less welcome. If Bush’s furry friend did make it into the park, he must have slipped in under our radar screen.
