Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, right, and Ted Sorensen, former advisor and speechwriter to President John F. Kennedy, joined New School University president Bob Kerrey, at the university on March 1 for a discussion of the presidential race and electoral politics. Kennedy, first elected in 1962 to serve out the term of his brother, J.F.K., is the Senate’s most senior member. He sported a button supporting the unionization of New School’s adjunct, or part-time, faculty. Sorensen practices international law at the firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton & Garrison. The series of discussions at the university, entitled “Electing the New President of the United States: The Mathematics of Electoral College Politics,” features prominent members of the Democratic and Republican parties and utilizes a mapping tool developed by New School’s Parsons Institute for Information Mapping (PIIM) that shows how presidential candidates would fare, based on voter surveys, including if the race were only on specific issues.
