For the first time in Manhattan Kickers history, the girls U-11 team (for players age 11 and under) won the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League Indoor Tournament. The victory, at the Cunningham Center in Brooklyn, was especially sweet because the Downtown girls also “played up,” taking on an older, U-12 team, as well, thus winning in not one, but two, age groups. On March 1, they bested the Gotham girls in overtime, scoring the winning goal 3 minutes into sudden death. The next Sunday, playing up one age bracket, they beat the Brooklyn Patriot Lionesses in the semifinals, winning again in sudden-death overtime. Against the BW Gotschee U-12’s in the final, the Kickers had an early 3-0 lead, then held on to win, 4-2.
