A New York City man was charged on Monday for allegedly fatally choking his boss in Tribeca eight years ago.
Michael Patrick DeSalles, 54, was charged with murder in the second degree for allegedly choking his employer to death with zip ties in 2017.
“I hope the victim’s loved ones can take some measure of comfort that this defendant will finally face accountability in New York,” said District Attorney Alvin Bragg. “I thank our prosecutors for never wavering from the investigation and doggedly seeking the return of this defendant.”
According to court documents, on Feb. 14, 2017, DeSalles allegedly attacked his boss, 51-year-old Omid Gholian, and tied two zip ties tightly around his neck. The two worked at a jewelry store in Tribeca.
Three hours after the attack, DeSalles allegedly purchased a plane ticket to Mauritius and flew out of JFK Airport that evening.
The next day, Gholian’s family members and police went to the store the next day and found that it was locked. After using a key provided by the family, police entered the store and found Gholian dead with zip ties around his neck, bruising on his eye and a gash on his head.
Following the alleged crime, DeSalles allegedly fled New York to Mauritius, his native country. He was extradited back to the states on Friday, May 2.
