New School University President Bob Kerrey announced the appointment earlier this month of Benjamin Lee, professor of anthropology and Asian studies at Rice University, as dean of the New School Graduate Faculty of Political Science.
Lee, who is also director of the Transnational China Project at the James A. Baker Institute of Policy Studies at Rice, takes over at the Graduate Faculty of Political Science on July 1, replacing Richard J. Bernstein, dean since 1992, who returns to teaching in the Graduate Faculty in the Philosophy Department.
Lee, who was also appointed professor of both anthropology and philosophy in the New School Graduate Faculty, has been at Rice since 1995. He earned a BA in psychology at Johns Hopkins and a PhD in anthropology from University of Chicago. Lee’s scholarly interests are in linguistics, philosophical and psychological anthropology, global cultural studies and contemporary Chinese culture.
