New St. Vincent’s emergency chief

St. Vincent’s Hospital Manhattan on Aug. 12 appointed Dr. Carol Leah Barsky as the new chairperson of its department of emergency medicine. She will oversee all clinical and administrative functions of the emergency department, including emergency preparedness in the event of a nuclear, biological or chemical attack.

Barsky previously was the director of special projects and director of clinical operations and vice chairperson of the department of emergency medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. She went to Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn, completed her internship in medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital and served her residency in emergency medicine at Jacobi Medical Center.

Barsky holds the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and she is currently assistant professor of emergency medicine at Mount Sinai.
