New rape charges Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. last week filed more charges of sexual abuse against Jeremy Fulton, 27, the former youth minister at Mariner’s Temple Baptist Church, 3 Henry St. Fulton, who was indicted Dec. 4 for raping and sexually abusing a girl between July 2007 when she was 12 and October last year, is now charged with sexually abusing three other teenage girls.
The charges filed March 10 are the result of investigations in the wake of the first case last year when the victim’s mother learned that another girl who also attended the Mariner’s Education Center had complained about Fulton’s behavior. Fulton was arrested in Baltimore on Nov. 24 last year, was extradited and pleaded not guilty. He is still being held in lieu of $200,000 bail on charges of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13, endangering the welfare of a child, and rape. The Manhattan D.A. is continuing the investigation and has asked anyone with information to phone the Child Abuse Hotline, 212-335-4308.
Tribeca sex club
The condo board at 109 Reade St. has filed a lawsuit against a tenant in a basement apartment who turned the place into a noisy nightclub with “pornographic elements and flaming massages.” The civil suit says the tenant, Dimitri Demoulakis, identified himself as an Internet sex-toy seller. The action also names the condo owner of the apartment, James McGown, a real estate investor, who rents the apartment to Demoulakis. The suit seeks a court order barring those events in the six-story building. Patrons pay between $10 and $15 admission to the events, the suit says.
Demoulakis told the Daily News that a raucous “Phat Friday” last November that residents cited in the suit was run by a friend to whom he lent the place. Residents called police about disturbances on a few occasions, the suit says. The action also contends that McGown has not paid common condo charges since February 2008 and had transferred the deed to his 6-year-old daughter to escape liability.
Fatal descent
Police responded to a call at 9:34 p.m. Sun. March 14 about a man who was unconscious and not breathing lying in the grassy area in front of 60 Columbia St. in the Baruch Houses complex. An Emergency Medical Service team declared the victim, identified only as a Hispanic man, 49, dead on arrival. Police are investigating the circumstances of the death but said they believe it was the result of a jump or fall from the building. Further identification of the victim was pending family notification.
Plea on sex charges
Lambros Kourakis, 60, arrested in December of last year and again on Wed., March 10 for sexually abusing two 19-year-old women in his Downtown model agency office, pleaded guilty on Tues., March 16 to the offense against one victim and is scheduled to plead on March 25 to abusing the other victim.
Kourakis, who had placed ads for models on Craigslist, met the first victim on December 18, 2009 in his office at 130 William St. where he grabbed her breast, police said. He was arrested Dec. 21 and released on his own recognizance. On Feb. 25, he met another victim at 130 William St. and sexually attacked her and was arrested March 10 for the second offense. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of forcible touching on the first offense and is to appear in court March 25 for an agreed guilty plea on the second offense. Kourakis and has also agreed to a 30-day jail sentence for both offenses, said a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney.
Jewelry theft
A burglar cut through part of a roll-down gate of Gold Rush Jewelers, 116 Fulton St. and then smashed the glass front door in the early hours of Thurs., March 4, police said. The intruder smashed several display cases in the store and made off with 69 pieces of gold and diamond jewelry, including rings, chains, earrings, bracelets and watches with a total value of $97,000, police said.
