Chinatown fatal stab
An argument between two men at a single-room-occupancy hotel in Chinatown on Monday afternoon Oct. 18 ended in a stabbing death, police said.
The suspect, Sen Feng Lin, 28, rushed into the lobby of the Sun Hotel, at 140 Hester St. at the corner of Bowery, with bloody hands at about 1 p.m. and told residents that he had stabbed a man on the fifth floor. A Fire Department ambulance crew found the victim, Jen Hua Yung, 40, dead with stab wounds in the face, neck and arms.
Police said a 4-inch folding knife was recovered from the scene. Lin, who appeared dazed, quietly put his hands out to be handcuffed by police, according to a Newsday article.
Neighbors said the two men, both restaurant workers who spoke little English, quarreled frequently. The argument Monday began when Lin complained that the victim was making too much noise, witnesses said.
Bike racer dies
Kurt Marino, 47, member of a bicycle team taking part in a charity ride for multiple sclerosis on Sun. Oct. 17, died soon after he set out from the starting point on F.D.R. Dr. at E. Houston St.
Doctors at the scene tried to revive Marino, who was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was declared dead at about 8:30 a.m., according to a Newsday article. Team members said doctors thought Marino might have suffered a brain aneurism. Marino, a Cos Cobb, Conn., resident and leading member of Paxar, a team sponsored by a Connecticut label manufacturer, was an expert bicycle racer, teammates said. About 4,000 riders took part in the 100-mile charity event.
Abduction attempt
Police are looking for a man who tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl from the streets of the East Village on Monday evening Oct. 12. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man between the ages of 20 and 30, weighing about 160 pounds, wearing a red knit cap and holding a black umbrella, first approached the girl at about 5:30 p.m. on First Ave. between E. Second and E. Third Sts.
The girl ignored his demand to follow him, but he accosted her again in front of 121 E. Third St. between First Ave. and Avenue A. He grabbed the child’s clothes but she broke away and the suspect fled. Police said he might have had a car parked nearby. Police are asking anyone with information to phone 1-800-577-TIPS.
Fifth Precinct Council
The Fifth Police Precinct Community Council will meet Wed. Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. at the precinct stationhouse at 19 Elizabeth St. Police will give local crime statistics and reports on local crime and quality of life conditions and will answer questions from the audience.
