On May Day, the international day of the worker, progressive musicians gave a free concert in Union Sq.’s south plaza to, as they put it, “fan the flames of resistance and rekindle the heritage of radical labor.” At right, Judy Gorman sang on topical subjects; above, Kirk Kelly, left, and John Pietaro jammed on a song together. The scene of massive worker demonstrations and protests last century, Union Sq. is forever linked with the struggle for workers’ rights.
